Adolescent Treatment in Little Elm, Frisco, & Prosper
Here at Corbridge Orthodontics, our mission is to give our Frisco, Little Elm and Prosper area patients a more beautiful smile. And although our orthodontists recommend your child has his or her first visit by the age of 7, it’s often not until children reach adolescents that they actually begin orthodontic treatment. The teenage years can be scary with a wide range of emotional, physical and social changes. A beautiful smile can help to boost their self-confidence, giving them one less thing to worry about. Adolescents can greatly benefit from orthodontic treatment from our highly-skilled orthodontists, Dr. Jared Corbridge and Dr. Kim Rogers-Raftery who have the training to straighten even the most crooked teeth.
What Is The Best Age For Orthodontics?
Most teens have their adult teeth from ages 11-15 and are also going through rapid body changes from puberty, making this age the ideal time for orthodontic treatment. Our orthodontists can use the frequent teen growth spurts to their advantage by shortening treatment time and reshaping bad bites and teeth arrangements at the same time.
By this age, any likely problems can be detected such as improper bites, gaps, and crooked teeth. Teenagers also have quicker metabolisms, lessening the pain and discomfort associated with orthodontics. A lot of teenagers receive orthodontic treatment at this age, helping out parents to persuade their teen to do the same as many of their peers.
What Are The Treatment Options At Cobridge Orthodontics?
The most common treatments our Frisco, Little Elm and Prosper patients go with are Invisalign and traditional metal braces. Through orthodontic technology, we at Cobridge Orthodontics are able to offer a wide range of orthodontic treatment options to best suit your teen. Treatment options often differ based on the severity of correction required for each individual teen. The most popular treatment options we offer for teens are:
- Metal Braces: While Corbridge Orthodontics offers all types of braces, the traditional metal braces have been the popular choice for adolescents for years. Many teens find wearing braces a “right of passage” and are excited about their new appliances. They find braces today are smaller and lighter than they ever have been and they especially love the option for colored, elastic ties.
- Invisalign Teen: Unlike traditional braces described above, Invisalign uses a series of removable, clear plastic trays that gradually straighten teeth as they're worn (for 22 hours per day). Invisalign Teen is especially popular due to the fact that they are an essentially invisible orthodontic treatment and the come with a compliance indicator to tell how often you wear them.
- Retainers: We can’t stress enough to our Frisco area patients how important the retention phase of treatment is. By fitting these orthodontic appliances correctly, you'll never notice they are in your mouth. The removable retainer must be worn at least at night.
- Other appliances: Other orthodontic appliances may be recommended in some cases, where major tooth or jaw movement is needed. They can range from small devices that fit inside the mouth such as palatal expanders, to external headgear. But don't worry: You'll get used to them, and they're temporary — but they provide a long-term benefit in a short time.
